- single-family and multiple-family residences, including apartment buildings
- industrial and manufacturing facilities
- outdoor facilities: parking lots, sidewalks, roadways, lawns
Our work in this area generally covers building and property physical features and characteristics associated with hazards, such as:
- whether buildings and properties were defective in design in regard to safety
- whether buildings and properties conformed with:
Our reconstruction of premises accidents determines whether building and property features and/or conditions caused or contributed to the accident, including those accidents commonly called slips and falls and trips and falls. Our work in this area includes determining whether revision of the facilities was required for safety.
- windows and window assemblies
- interior and exterior steps, stairs and ramps, and their handrails and guardrails
- passenger and freight elevators and lifts used as passenger elevators
- interior and exterior balconies
- sidewalks, parking lots, and other exterior walking surfaces
- features and fixtures nearby, on, or within the above features and fixtures
- ramps, including ADA ramps (or the lack of ADA ramps where required)
- potentially inadequate slip-resistance of surfaces
- potentially inadequately guarded openings and elevated edges of floors (with drops to lower floors)
- potentially inadequate warnings of hazards.
- ice potentially unnaturally present
- ice and snow present from potential inadequate maintenance
- appropriate accepted engineering practices
- standards, regulations and codes
- especially state and federal building codes and requirements
- including ADA requirements
Our analyses are performed to determine:
took 8 college courses in physics and engineering mechanics, the scientific bases for reconstruction of slips, trips and falls
Buildings and properties have similar features associated with these safety issues, which we analyze based on accepted engineering and safety principles for the use of buildings and properties.

Our reconstruction also includes determining whether it was a slip and fall or a trip and fall that was involved in the accident, when it was one or the other. Slips and falls are different mechanically and dynamically from trips and falls. Falls from heights may have some or the same mechanical and dynamic features of slips and falls or trips and falls. However, in other circumstances, especially with failure of support under the person, falls from heights have characteristics largely different from those of slips and falls and trips and falls.
Our Work with Premises Accidents - includes investigation and reconstruction of slips and falls, trips and falls, and falls from heights, and investigation and engineering analysis of building and property characteristics and features associated with potential hazards, such as stairs, ramps and walking surfaces. This work includes assessing slip-resistance, guarding of openings and edges, potential inadequate warnings of hazards and potential trip hazards.
Our work includes assessment of the movements and potential observations of the person in a premises accident and adherence to applicable codes, standards and recommended practices, particularly building codes, including the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities.
